The illustrations of Hsiao Ron Cheng represent a world that is filled with beauty and contradiction. Intimate and comforting, yet distant and disturbing. A world in which magical little characters express a pure innocence and a confronting brutality at the same time. I love the soft colors she uses and the fact that her works are not just beautiful to look at, but also express a fascinating kind of complexity that opens doors to stories and interpretations of all kinds.
Based in Taipei, Taiwan, Hsiao Ron Cheng started working as a freelance illustrator in 2012. Her works soon got international attention and are exhibited worldwide.
