I recently stumbled upon the most whimsical drawings that I ended up staring at for quite some time. Charmed by this mythical, friendly looking figure I discovered these charcoal illustrations are part of a narrative series by Mexico City based artist David Álvarez. It’s called I Dreamed I Was the Night and follows this being – the night – wandering through the country side and contemplating its surroundings. So magical!
Whimsy
With countless colors and details to absorb, artist Sofia Moore paints magical worlds that I would love to get lost in. Her beautiful work leaves me curious about the delightful characters she portrays, blending into their surroundings so perfectly. And those little white paintings on their dresses and wings.. love!
Snow and Rose are sisters and best friends. From a studio that overlooks a rippling brook in the woods, they combine the illustrations from their sketchbooks on all sorts of lovely goodies. Prints and pendants, earrings and wreaths, all of their beautiful handcrafted items have this wonderful whimsical touch that I love so much.. The four-leaf clover necklace is my favorite!
Amalia Restrepo illustrates magical sceneries that make me daydream about worlds I wish I could live in. With a mission to create as much art as possible, she draws adorable characters that are rich of color and have a beautiful, folkloric style <3
Originally from Colombia, Amalia is currently a M.F.A. candidate at the Savannah College of Art and Design. She has created works for various projects, including childrens books and package designs. Also, have a peek at these animations Amalia illustrated for two projects. So adorable!
When I first visited Toi’s online Gallery I ended up browsing through their amazing selection of art for over an hour. There are so much magical, whimsical things to be found there! Toi Gallery is run by Argentina born and California based founders Karina Miller and Viviana Elinger. They carefully curate illustrations from all over the world and sell them on high quality art prints with a mission is to make art accessible to all. Toi also has a lovely blog where the artists write about their work. Their latest post is about Dutch illustrator Lieke van der Vorst whose colorful drawings I love so, so much!
