Aiko Fukawa is a Fujisawa-based illustrator who paints cute & colorful animal illustrations in every imaginable color. I’m a big fan of work so I was thrilled to find out she was exhibiting her works in Kyoto during my stay.
Lucky me! Again!
Her colorful paintings turned the gallery into a magical zoo. Cats, dogs, squirrels and bunnies were up on the walls everywhere. Dressed from top to toe and surrounded by little flowers, plants and birds. Oh, how I love Aiko’s work..
Aiko herself was also there and I have to admit I got a little shy when I met her. But there was nothing to be shy about really; she is a very kind-hearted, enthusiastic girl who couldn’t stop asking questions about Holland, my home country. I also loved hearing about her experience as an illustrator. We chatted for a while, I took some photos and when I got me a little souvenir she painted a little painting on the box. Yup, I felt pretty great after that!

By the way, the exhibition took place in Keibunsha; an inspiring bookstore & gallery where you can buy all kinds of goodies and see works of super-talented Japanese illustrators. Make sure to give it a visit if you’re ever in Kyoto.
Oh my gosh! It’s all so beautiful. The plates were especially sweet to me. And I love that she painted your box. What a lovely idea to make someone feel special. What a dreamy trip you are having. 🙂
