Daisy Patton

These mysterious & playful portraits are the work of Daisy Patton. Currently living in Denver, Colorado, Daisy is an artist who is fascinated by family, memory and the temporal value of the photograph. The works below are from a series called Forgetting is So Long and the people in the collected photographs are unknown strangers from the past. As Daisy herself explains:

“They say we die two deaths: the first is our actual passing; the second is when the last person who carries a memory of us takes their final breath. Family photographs, vessels of memory, are therefore integral to extending this quasi-life. They show a mother, a child, a past self, full of in-jokes and minutia meaningful only to a select few. But divorced from their origins and subjects, these emotion-ridden images become empty and unknowable, for they are intrinsically entwined with the intimate memories of someone.”

Daisy Patton earned her MFA at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and Tufts University.
If you happen to live near Denver, you will have an opportunity to see her work in real life at the Michael Warren Contemporary Gallery from december 2014 to january 2015. If not, you can visit her site for many more beautiful works:
