Katinka Lampe

Many of the characters in Katinka Lampe’s portraits are young, but the objects they wear (such as scarves, jewelry and fake eyelashes) contradict with their youthful innocence. They are both vulnerable and distant at the same time which makes them fascinating and popular among many art lovers. Katinka Lampe lives and works in the Netherlands and her paintings have been exhibited worldwide. Many more portraits can be found on her site.

Painting

Kyla Zoe Rafert

The one of a kind paintings by artist Kyla Zoe Rafert set a beautiful, fairytalic scene which is filled with color, pattern and mystery. Kyla portrays young women that are facing notions of youth, such as curiosity, the potency of beauty and the fall of innocence. “Despite their childlike references however, these works are meant to embody the prophetic perspective of an adult looking backward to an overly romanticized, fictive past. As an adult, one can look longingly at this world of innocence, and whether it existed or not, they have always fallen from it: they have traded their naiveté for the role of a diviner.”

Painting

Hikari Shimoda

Hikari Shimoda’s one of a kind-paintings explore complex themes related to the isolation and loneliness of childhood. Within a setting that is both sweet and sour, she portrays fascinating characters that struggle with the modern world they are growing up in. “My motif is children whose ages are around 10 to 15 years old. Their attempt to adjust themselves to the modern environment in our time seems to be a hard battle to me. Also, they are living in an unstable time between being a child and a being an adult.”

Born in Nagano Japan, Hikari Shimoda graduated from the Kyoto Saga University of Arts in 2005. Her works have been featured in both solo- and group exhibitions worldwide.
