Every week ArtisticMoods invites an artist to tell us something about the ambitions behind their work. This week we give the word to Carrie May. She is a freelance Illustrator and Artist known for her bright, colourful and textural creations.
My background is in Illustration and I studied at Brighton and the Royal College of Art. I have always had a love for colour and texture- the two distinctive characteristics of my work. I wanted to make this my living and love more and more what I do as time develops. It’s more of a way of life a way of thinking and the boundaries between work and play are more blurred. I love to discover new inspirations away from my studio and I almost can’t help it, like a rustic magpie, collecting treasures when out and about. I am motivated by the feeling that creating my work generates and the responses it receives.
Carries illustrations are distinctive and characterful, evoking a sense of nostalgic charm and whimsy, appealing to both young and old. It can be seen featured on book jackets, in newspapers and magazines, greetings cards and larger campaigns.
