Anne Siems

It’s hard not to fall in love with the fairytale-like paintings and drawings of Anne Siems. From the humble faces of her characters to the elegant lines that surround them.. From the body of her works to the tiniest details.. Everything about Anne Siems’ works is breathtaking, and brings together humans and nature in a wonderful, harmonious style.

Anne Siems finished her MFA at the Hochschule der Kunste Berlin. Originally from Germany, she moved to Seattle in 1991 where she continued to develop herself as an artist. While working on waxed surfaces in the past, she started working on panels for the first time in 2001, which allowed her to put more focus on details. Her characters are surrounded by all sorts of precious little objects. From flowers, Lover’s eyes and shells in her earlier works, to elegant white lines that give a transparent effect in her more recent ones.

Anne has always had a large interest in the human figure and the attributes that surround it. “These attributes reflect something about the being without giving a specific narrative. Ideas about life and death, sensuality, sexuality, nature, experiences in the realm of dreams, psyche and spirit are my ongoing topic. A lot of inspiration for these pieces stem from my ongoing love for the art of the European Masters, Early American Folk Art, as well as vintage and modern photography”.

Selecting works to show in this blog was quite tough, as Anne Siems has a large and impressive collection of amazing works. But here are the ones I chose. Enjoy!
