Lino cut printing can require lots of work and patience. But these gorgeous, one of a kind portraits by artist Ellen von Wiegand are a proof that the results can be so worth it! There’s something about these ladies, their poses and the surrounding patterns, that makes me curious to know more about what’s behind these beautiful women..
Although Ellen von Wiegand has been connected to art all her life, it wasn’t until a later stage that she started to express herself in her own creations. A shy and introvert character made her struggle to put herself out there for quite some time, which is very much connected to the beautiful pieces she creates today. In her lino prints, Ellen uses her own body as a model, giving them a very personal character. However, she does not consider herself the subject of her pieces:
I don’t see my prints as self-portraits, but rather physical representations of emotional states of being. Male or female, my hope is that you see a piece of yourself reflected back to you in each image.
You can find a selection of limited edition prints available in Ellen’s shop. And if you’re in for a monthly artsy surprise, you can subscribe to her Print Package to receive a monthly crafted mini print, a series of images of the process of its making, and a letter from Ellen for 6 months!
